With Music Day 2013 coming into view from the cold dark winter, we are proud to announce we will be participating this year! With over 430 cities across the world taking part, we couldn’t not be the ones to represent London in this mammoth celebration of noisy culture. Stay tuned for more info…
Before the premier of FRESH MEET, we caught up with DJ Ben Lewis (one half of Real Nice) for a few questions…
1001:How did you guys come up with the name ‘Real Nice’?
RN: In our group of friends at the time we started djing if we liked something we would say it was ‘real nice’, so it seemed to fit well as a dj name. It’s also a name that conjures up feelings of ‘good times’, which we are all about.
1001:In your Bio you mentioned you’re originally from Bristol but now live in London. What major differences did you spot over time?
RN: Good question. I would say the main difference between the club scenes in the two cities is the size. In Bristol every body seems to know each other and it creates a really nice family vibe. I have to say the London scene does seem a bit more cut throat but on the other hand there is more room and venues for people trying to start new projects.
1001:You produce and deejay as a duo, how does that work for you?
RN: It seems to work pretty well so far, it helps we get on so well as friends. I have to say Sam is more advanced with his production skills at the moment, so am constantly learning from him but am about to go back to do a short course a point blank to top up.
1001:You had an amazing run last year with releases on ‘Love Not Money’ and New York’s ‘Nurvous Records’. Can you reveal any of your plans for 2013?
RN: Well we have lots to look forward to this year the main thing being the start of Real Nice Records, which we are very excited about. The first release is not from us but we are doing one of the remixes. Can’t say to much about that now but keep you eyes pealed and your ear to the floor. We also have a few things coming out on New York label King Street Sounds, which is a massive honour (both colab tracks one with eLDOKO and one with Ca$h Back).
1001:Please unveil your top 3 tracks to set the dancefloor on fire?
RN: Denny & Guthrie - Turn My Back (Robert James Remix)
Crazy P - Heartbreaker (Huxley Remix)
Ejeca - Night Rays
You can listen to a ‘Real Nice’ mix exclusively for Fresh MeetHERE.
